Engineer trades $7 million Currumbin home for supersized beachfront upgrade

764 Pacific Pde, Currumbin

A Currumbin couple have sold their beachfront home for $7.01 million after securing a supersized lot along the same coveted stretch at auction earlier this year.

Engineer Andrew Barry and his wife, Julie, splashed $10.125m on a 1,138sq m block at 746 Pacific Pde at a hotly contested auction in January.

Their existing home, just up the road at no.764, had been listed with a $7.695m price tag after passing in at auction in March.

The four-bedroom, three-bathroom home sold for $7.01m — equating to an eye-watering $16,810 per sq m.

This could be the world’s best backyard?

Both homes were marketed by Troy Dowker, of Kollosche.

Mr and Mrs Barry, “born and bred Gold Coasters”, said they planned to build a new family home to share with their three children.

“We’re from Currumbin so we know it’s a special place,” Mrs Barry said at the January auction.

“The views, the ocean as the backyard — it’s pretty unique.”

The modern family home they sold has three storeys serviced by a lift, with polished concrete floors and full-height glass doors opening onto a rear entertaining area with a pool and elevated cabana.

Bedrooms are located on the top floor, including the master with a private balcony and views stretching south to Snapper Rocks, the property listing states.

“This stylish, light-filled home makes the most of its 417sq m footprint.”

However, the footprint of the Barrys’ new holding just up the hill is almost triple the size.

Mr Dowker said the auction result for the deceased estate was a record price for a house on Pacific Pde, which stretched from Currumbin down to Bilinga.

The sale price for the larger block at no.746 equalled $8,897 per sqare metre.
