Restaurateur’s ultra-modern villa has classic car lift, solar Tesla charger

QUEENSLAND restaurateur Aaron Wilson and his wife, Georgia, have listed their ultra-modern waterfront villa with unique features including a garage lift system designed to accommodate a classic car collection.

The Palm Beach home is part of an award-winning property development by Mr Wilson, who co-founded the popular Ze Pickle burger and craft beer franchise in 2012, and goes to auction on May 27.

Designed by architect Shane Denman, the 2021-built duplex at 2/20 Marlin Ct is marketed by Currumbin agent, Alex Passos.

The four-bedroom, three-bathroom home makes full use of its 362sq m footprint, starting from street level where custom barn gates open to reveal a hydraulic car lift system with a rotating platform to house up to four cars.

The garage also has Tesla charging facilities powered by the three-storey home’s 13kw solar system.

An off-form concrete gatehouse and feature wall leads to the ground-floor living area and kitchen with heated burnished concrete floors, while a glass-sided sunken lounge looks out over the stone-tiled pool and spa.

Native blackbutt timber is carried from external veneers through custom internal finishes, and the home’s upper level houses the master bedroom with a concrete bath and steam shower in the ensuite.

Other features include a cinema room, al fresco entertaining nook with concealed barbecue, smoker and pizza oven, a putting green, and access to a private sandy beach.

Mr Wilson said the $60,000 garage lift system was engineered to house his collection of classic vehicles, including a 1957 Porsche and several vintage Harley-Davidson motorcycles.

“I’ve always been into classic cars and motorcycles, and although splitting the property limited us to a double-size garage each, with flood-height building regulations the ceiling ended up being quite high,” he said.

A metal platform rises to a height of 2150mm to allow for sufficient clearance beneath the ceiling for most 4WD vehicles, while creating a mezzanine level under the ceiling which could also be used as a concealed office or studio space, Mr Wilson said.

“We love the idea of it rotating and having the capacity for different purposes,” Mr Wilson said.

“It’s a full flat floor that is load-rated to 4.5 tonnes, people could use it for a boat trailer or jet skis, but you could also set up a whole gym or an e-commerce studio.”

The Wilsons subdivided the original 614sq m lot and built two villas.

The one now up for sale has been home to the couple and their two young children, while the other duplex was sold off the plan for $2.55m in March 2021.

“We designed the villas for a family, and it has been a real lifestyle house,” Mr Wilson said.

“You can see how busy Palm Beach and Tallebudgera Creek are now, just because of how beautiful the area is, but we have our own sandy beach right out the front where we can set up for the afternoon, or retreat upstairs to watch movies in our cinema.

“It just offers everything we like for the kids and for ourselves, and in a safe cul de sac location which is ideal for a family.”

The property won the Queensland Master Builders Medium Density Award and Ron McMaster Award in 2022 and was commended in the Queensland architecture awards.

Mr Wilson and co-founders Nathan Zuckerman and Joey Day have grown the Ze Pickle brand from its Burleigh Heads flagship venue to opening stores in Brisbane and Sydney, with plans to take the franchise to the US.
