A riverfront mansion inspired by a tropical resort has changed hands in a surprise $12 million deal after the owners were presented with an offer too good to turn down.
The off-market sale of the trophy home at 7309 Bayside Cl, Hope Island was negotiated by Matt Gates, of Ray White Sanctuary Cove.
It was one of the biggest reported sales on the Gold Coast so far this year, with the vendors collecting significant gains since purchasing the sprawling home on a 1,222sq m lot for $8.4m in December 2021.

Mr Gates said he contacted the vendors with the buyer’s offer on Friday and the property was sold by the next day.
“The vendors were long-term clients of mine, however they hadn’t considered selling until I made my approach,” he said.
“I had someone comment that they were friends of the owners and hadn’t realised they were selling, and I replied, ‘neither did they, until the beginning of the week’.”
The buyer’s identity has not been disclosed, however Mr Gates said they had previously expressed interest in buying Sanctuary Cove property but did not find a suitable home among available listings.

“They wanted a larger home that was an A-grade property in the sense of a full concrete construction with a big basement garage,” Mr Gates said.
“This property is certainly very special. It will be a very swift settlement.”
The six-bedroom, nine-bathroom home has a raft of luxury features, including a spectacular stone and timber entry corridor where water flows around giant Vietnamese urns, leading indoors where curved architecture connects multiple indoor and outdoor living spaces.
Its exterior was revitalised by acclaimed Sunshine Coast designer, Paul Clout, prior to when the home last sold.

Four of the bedrooms are upstairs, including the lavish master bedroom with dressing room and ensuite, with a bridge linking the space to a private office or parents’ retreat.
The basement level is dedicated to entertaining, with a fully equipped bar, wine cellar, home cinema, gym or insulated music room, and a large games lounge complete with underwater viewing panels to the tiled swimming pool.

Mr Gates said Sanctuary Cove’s prestige market was “flying”, with $80m worth of real estate transacting in the exclusive golfing community in the last 12 weeks.
Two luxury homes priced above $15m currently for sale in the estate include Archachon, a five-bedroom property at 8085 Riverside Dr, and another on Anchorage Tce.
