The Block couple Jess and Ayden trades luxe Queenslander home for life on the land

The Block couple Jess and Ayden Hogan have listed the spectacular Queenslander-style home they built with winnings from their appearance on the hit TV renovation show.

The pair spared no expense on the Maudsland home, with the build time stretching to four years as they refused to compromise on luxury finishes.

But the dream acreage property is now up for grabs, with the Hogans swapping their stunning Jayson Pate-designed home for life on the land in rural Queensland with their two children, Josie, 14, and Thomas, 11.

Completed in 2020, the four-bedroom, three-bathroom house at 9 Gene Kelly Ct is marketed by Nathan Simon, of All Properties Group, with a price guide of $1.6m-plus.

Mr and Mrs Hogan collected $665,000 from their stint on The Block: Triple Threat in 2015, where they transformed a townhouse in Melbourne’s South Yarra which sold under the hammer for $2m in the Season 10 finale.

The pair went straight on to win Channel 9’s Reno Rumble, taking home $100,000 — half was donated to charity — and a car.

Mrs Hogan said the TV winnings “allowed us to expand on the dream”, after they’d purchased a 4,108sq m vacant block of land in Maudsland on the northern Gold Coast in 2014.

“It was so exciting to have come away with a lot more experience and to be able to put that into practice with the build,” she said.

While Mr Hogan was a cabinetmaker by trade, Mrs Hogan had no construction or design background.

Their home in Tuxedo Junction Estate blends old and new in grand style, with a tree-lined driveway leading to a classic all-white facade.

Inside, 6m-high ceilings allow sunlight to flood vast living spaces, while high-end finishes include custom cabinetry, thick marble benchtops, hardwood floors, and a honed brick fireplace with breeze block feature.

Wide glass sliding doors open onto wraparound timber al fresco decking, and there’s a concrete pool and spa.

The house has two master bedrooms with ensuites and walk-in robes, a study with attic storage, and a kid’s retreat or third living area.

The total build cost exceeded $1m, factoring in several design upgrades, including traditional-style architraves and imported vintage door handles.

“We had a lot of money to spend after the Block and Reno Rumble, but when you are building a big house it doesn’t go a long way,” she said.

“We were living in a pretty unfinished home for a while, then in the last push we had to borrow a chunk of $200,000.

“We went for those extra touches to make sure it was amazing because we thought we were going to be there forever, but the dream has changed.”

In February 2021, they purchased a 23.45ha cattle farm in Cainbable, near Beaudesert, for $1.05m.

“Ayden and I both have a rural background, and I felt if we waited we might miss the opportunity to have the kids grow up around cows and horses and country folk,” she said.

Mr Hogan works with Hutchinson Builders, while Mrs Hogan operates a family business, Banksia Gifts Australia, from the farm.

Mr Simon said he had been inundated with interest since listing the property.
