Visionary developer Dr Robin Loh’s family compound to sell under the hammer

42-44 Clear Bay Avenue, Clear Island Waters

A towering Clear Island Waters mansion built by a visionary developer for his daughter is set to go under the hammer.

The six-bedroom, six-bathroom trophy home across two blocks was formerly owned by Louise Loh, daughter of Dr Robin Loh, and her then-partner Richard Wyatt.

The late Dr Loh was the mastermind behind the Gold Coast suburb of Robina, regarded as one of Australia’s most prosperous planned communities.

He passed the reigns of Robina Land Corporation to his richlister daughter and son-in-law in 1996, while the house was built under the company name in 2000, property records show.

The couple sold their three-storey waterfront house in a gated estate at 42-44 Clear Water Bay Ave to Gold Coast investor Surjit Singh in 2014.

It is marketed by Amir Prestige agents Ben Ada and Cameron Edwards and goes to auction on August 13.

Mr Singh said he was drawn to the 1,722 sqm property’s manicured grounds with 40m of waterfrontage, as well as its generous living and entertaining spaces ideal for his family of three children, aged 10 to 14.

“From a land perspective, there’s not many houses in Clear Island Waters built over two lots like this,” he said.

“It has a backyard for the kids to play, an incredible 25m lap pool and enough places for everyone to either separate out, or come together for big communal functions.”

Three levels of living space

Features include soaring 6m ceilings over a sprawling ground-floor living and dining area, which is crowned by chandeliers and an open sky void fitted with rain sensors.

This porcelain-tiled space joins the kitchen via a stunning backlit onyx servery, and also leads onto covered decking and a solar heated pool enclosure with water slide and spa.

There’s a Hollywood-style home theatre with plush red drapes, library, gym and games room or office, along with a private pontoon and triple garage with drive-through access to a boat ramp.

Five bedrooms, four with ensuites, are located on the first floor, including the spacious master which has a spa bath and wraparound balcony with lake and mountain views.

The sixth bedroom is downstairs and has an ensuite plus adjoining separate lounge room, making it ideal for guests.

Mr Singh said the house embodied elements of Art Deco style, along with the Singaporean influence of its original owners.

“On the top level is another living area which we have set up as a retreat for the kids. They can be upstairs watching TV or playing games while my wife and I are entertaining guests downstairs,” he said.

“You’re basically getting 180 degree views from upstairs too, capturing the beautiful Broadbeach and Surfers Paradise skyline and right across the water to the Hinterland.”

The vendors have completed extensive renovations since taking ownership of the property, including remodelling some of its quirkier design characteristics such as a hole in the middle of the main living room floor, where a full-sized tree grew up towards the open skylight for favourable feng shui.

Dr Loh secured 20 sqkm of farmland in 1980 and developed the thriving hub of Robina, which by the time of his death 30 years later was home to 30,000 people and complete with a major shopping centre, hospital and commercial precinct.
